Brazilian Jiu Jitsu-Awkward & Awesome

Recently I've had lots of inquiries about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ, Jiu Jitsu, Jits, whatever you like to call it) especially from women. I love BJJ. I tell almost everyone I meet they should try it. If you're considering a class you should realize it involves VERY close contact. You and your training partner will be in positions that would be awkward with your spouse. I don't mean to discourage anyone, but it's good to have a little idea what you might be in for. Like anything, YouTube has some great videos. There's also a lot of crap. A good channel that mixes humor and practical advice is Mach Life. Another good one (in my opinion) is Realize BJJ Life. This focuses more on women getting started. Above all, if you have questions, find a teacher you trust. Maybe ask to watch a class first. If you're in class and something doesn't feel right, speak up.
